Privacy & Transparency
We believe you should know exactly what happens with your data. Here's the full picture.
What We Don't Collect
- No IP addresses: never stored, never logged
- No cookies: we use localStorage for preferences only
- No tracking: no third-party analytics scripts
- No accounts: no sign-up, no login, no personal data
- No fingerprinting: no browser or device fingerprints
Client-Side Connectivity Checks
When you visit a page, your browser sends requests directly to the listed endpoints. These requests go from your browser to those services. They never pass through our servers.
We measure the round-trip time and whether the endpoint responded.
Server-Side Probes
Our servers probe curated endpoints every 15 minutes from multiple regions. This data is publicly available and shows what "everyone else" sees.
Crowdsourced Data (Opt-In Only)
If you enable the "Share Your Results" toggle, your connectivity measurements are anonymously submitted.
What's sent
- Endpoint URL that was tested
- Response time (latency in milliseconds)
- Whether the endpoint responded (reachable or not)
- A random session hash (not linked to your identity)
What's NOT sent
- Your IP address
- Your browser or device information
- Your location
- Any personal or identifying information
Data quality
Submissions with statistically outlier latency values (more than 3 standard deviations from the rolling median) are automatically rejected. Community data is only displayed when at least 5 independent reports exist.
Activity Log
When crowdsourcing is enabled, you can view every piece of data sent during your session. The log shows the exact JSON payload for each submission.
Local Storage
We store the following in your browser's localStorage:
- Theme preference: light, dark, or system
- Crowdsource opt-in: whether you've enabled data sharing
- Favorites: which curated pages you've bookmarked
This data never leaves your browser. You can clear it at any time through your browser settings.
Custom Lists
Custom URL lists are encoded directly into the page URL using compression. They are never sent to or stored on our servers. The URL is the list.
On-Demand Probes
When you request a server probe for a custom URL, the URL is validated for safety (SSRF protection). The URL and probe result are stored temporarily (30-day retention).
Open Source
This project is open source. You can inspect every line of code to verify these claims.
